Sunday / Holiday Transport Checker

Pick a date and a route — see the timetable impact. Sunday runs are leaner, last trains leave earlier, and federal holidays shut down half the shops.

Pick a date

What this solves

Switzerland runs SBB and most PostAuto buses on a Sunday timetable every Sunday plus federal holidays (about 12 days a year). Trains every 30 minutes instead of every 15; mountain cable cars may close entirely; lake steamers shift to a 2–3 daily schedule. Travellers without this knowledge get stranded.

Federal holidays where shops close almost everywhere (in addition to Sundays): New Year, Berchtold's Day (Jan 2 in many cantons), Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension, Whit Monday, Swiss National Day (Aug 1), Christmas, St Stephen's Day (Dec 26).

Common questions

Do night trains (NightJet) run on Sundays?

Yes. NightJet / TGV Lyria and the few CNL-style Swiss night services run every day. But connecting regional trains often don't, so plan a long layover or take a hotel near the station.

Are shops open on Sundays?

Almost none. Major train station shops (Manor, Coop at the station) stay open for traveller convenience, and the airport shops run as usual. But Migros, Coop supermarkets and most other retail close on Sundays by federal law.

What about Christmas Eve?

December 24 — SBB runs a partial Sunday + holiday timetable, with last trains leaving cities around 16:00–18:00. Many shops close by 16:00. The most disrupted day of the year for last-minute travel.
