Sunday Quiet Hours by Canton

Pick a canton and an activity — find out when you can mow the lawn, drill a wall, do laundry. Police enforce these rules.

What's your situation?

What this solves

Switzerland's "Ruhezeiten" are not suggestions. Neighbours call the Polizei (police) on a Sunday 10 am lawn mower, and the police do respond. Fines range from CHF 100 to CHF 2,000 depending on the violation. This tool maps your activity to the canton's official rule — and flags the rental-specific clauses that apply to most visitors.

Common questions

Can I mow on Sunday?

No — Sunday mowing is forbidden in all 26 cantons, typically from 12:00 Saturday through Sunday evening. Most cantons also ban it on federal holidays.

Can I do laundry at night?

Most buildings have a Hausordnung that bans washing after 22:00 (some after 20:00). Even in buildings without a Hausordnung, Nachtruhe 22:00–06:00 applies.

Can I have a party?

Yes, but warn neighbours (Zettel in the stairway), keep doors / windows closed, and end by 22:00 (or earlier per Hausordnung). Music heard outside after 22:00 = police can fine.
