What this solves
SBB luggage lockers come in 4 sizes — small (S, ~25×35×50 cm), medium (M, ~30×50×70 cm), large (L, ~40×60×90 cm), and oversized / ski. Most stations charge CHF 5/8/10/14 for 24 hours. But Zurich HB, Geneva Cornavin and a handful of others charge CHF 7/11/14/19 — close to 50% more. This tool prices your exact mix.
It also surfaces the rule that catches travellers: most stations use coin / TWINT pay and the lockers are first-come, first-served. In July at Zurich HB the medium lockers are routinely full by 9 am.
How to read the results
- S / M / L / Oversize match the actual cabinet sizes at the station.
- Standard pricing = CHF 5/8/10/14 per 24h. Premium = CHF 7/11/14/19. Small station = CHF 4/6/8/12 if lockers exist at all.
- If you need > 24 hours the price doubles — book hotel storage if it's overnight.
What this calculator ignores
- Many small alpine stations (Wengen, Mürren, Zermatt) have no lockers — only luggage forwarding or hotel storage.
- Some stations now use electronic lockers (no physical key) that charge per hour, not per day.
- SBB's official luggage forwarding service is CHF 12–20 per item between cities.
Common questions
Are lockers safe?
Reasonably. CCTV covers them, and the SBB claims a CHF 200 / item liability ceiling. For valuables, use the safe-deposit boxes that some stations offer (CHF 10–20 / day).
Can I pay with card?
Yes. Most stations accept TWINT, PostFinance, and major cards. The few remaining coin-only ones are clearly marked.
What if the locker is full?
In summer at Zurich HB / Lucerne / Interlaken, expect the L size to fill by mid-morning. Plan to arrive before 9 am or use hotel storage.
