What this solves
SAC huts release their reservation calendars at wildly different moments. The flagship huts (Mönchsjoch Hütte on the Jungfrau railway, Monte Rosa Hütte) book out 6–12 months ahead for peak Saturday nights. Most other huts release a 6-month rolling calendar. Off-season huts (winter-only) release just 4–8 weeks ahead.
This tool works backward from your stay date and tells you exactly when to log in, with the optimal "first minute" time on the release day. Group block rules (5+ people) and off-season shortcuts are also flagged.
How to read the results
- Release date = first day the calendar opens for your target stay. Be online at 09:00 Swiss time on this day.
- Risk level = likelihood of getting shut out. Flagship + peak = almost certain to need exact opening moment.
- Backup plan = alternative hut within the same massif.
What this calculator ignores
- Cancellation churn — even flagship huts free up a few beds 30–14 days out. Sign up for the cancellation waitlist.
- Last-minute "Hütte ohne Reservierung" — many SAC huts keep 5–8 walk-in beds even when fully booked.
- Private huts (Tschingelhütte, Berglihütte) have their own calendars.
Common questions
What time exactly do bookings open?
Online reservations open at 09:00 Swiss time on the release day. The hut guardian reviews email requests in the afternoon, so email enquiries are slower.
Can I book a group of 5+?
Group blocks (5–10 people) usually need to be confirmed by the hut guardian directly — call or email. Most huts ask you to book each member separately online and then confirm by phone that you all stay together.
What's the SAC half-board cost?
SAC members pay CHF 70–100 for half-board (dinner + bed + breakfast); non-members pay CHF 90–130. Some huts also offer a SAC member discount on the bed-only rate.
